Id say the first sign of slasher elements in film is the cabinet of dr caligari from 1920, a mysterious killer with a long knife, and while nothing is ever shown cezare does kill someone and the shadow is seen. Also features the first plot twist in film. Black christmas should get more recognition than Halloween,I bet the reason it isnt is because black christmas is canadian and doesn’t have that killer score or iconic masked killer, Halloween really didn’t do anything new but combined several elements and its popularity and success is the reason for its importance

I saw this movie opening weekend to a pretty empty theatre. I enjoyed it and loved the sub-genre used within it. I would say it’s more suspense with a few jump scares. But a really good debut film.

Edgar wrights crime thriller comedy horror film Hot Fuzz is heavily inspired by the wicker man they even used Edward Woodward to play the Doctor.

I didn’t think this movie was bad at all. I need to stop watching some other UA-cam channel reviews before I watch movies because they really blow it out of proportion sometimes. I thought it was a decent movie with a few little plot holes.

Great analysis, Sarah! It is a movie that captures our curiosity with a mystical mystery. Dakota plays the role of her, Masterfully! I loved her interaction with the yellow bird (Try not to die). And how she carried the cage throughout all the forest. *Irrelevant comment:* The first time I saw the trailer... I confused Dakota with Amanda Seyfried.

DASHCAM is a great combo of horror and comedy. This is my recommendation...so what 😆

They went off the rails with Prometheus and Covenant, but those movies are PREDATOR movies not Alien Movies. They are just tying to bank more money and develop the larger Predator,Alien cosmos. Hopefully this next Alien movie takes us back to Simpler Times

Thank you for reviewing the film. I agree that this would be a good entry film into horror, even a double feature with Cobweb (2023), because of the fairytale themes. Also, I agree with you on Dakota Fanning and Maika Monroe looking so alike, they should be in a film together as sisters. Fun fact, Monroe was in a movie called Watcher in 2022. just watched one with Georgina Campbell called T.I.M. released last year about AI, I screamed at by screen the whole time in frustration, great acting though. Woulds something like Archive 81 be considered found footage? I know the story is not told entirely through footage but it is a major plot device and exposition revealer.

I would love to see more Folk horrors like The Witch made also.

It was another fantastic religious movie. Some of the 70s scenes seemed authentic, that yellow glow is reminiscent of the 1970s, and the easy listening music at the beginning was spot on for Europe at that time. The Immaculate just pips this because it isn't tied to an original.
